FAQs

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions about the Heathfield & District Volunteer Centre. If you have another question that doesn’t appear here, please feel free to contact us.

No, we are funded by grants and donations.  Volunteers and charities pay nothing for our services.

We have a wide range of charities and volunteer roles to give you inspiration.  If you try a role and its not for you, we can offer something different until you find the role you want.

Some volunteering roles just need a few hours a year whereas some require a few hours per week and anything in between!

You can stop at anytime but if you stop because the role doesn’t suit you, let us find you something else.  Some people try several roles before they find something that suits them!

Some roles just need a willingness to help although if you have skills you want to use, we will do our best to find a suitable role.

If the role you take on requires training, the charity will offer this free of charge after an induction period.

Yes and if you are in receipt of a Job Seekers Allowance, volunteering is often an aid to a paid job.

This depends on the role.  The minimum age to volunteer is 14 and there are some limitations on the under 18’s.  Some roles have an age limit for insurance purposes but if you want to help, we can usually find a role for nearly all ages.

Clearly volunteering is unpaid but depending on the role and the charity, some travel expenses can be re-imbursed

Many roles are ideal for those with a disability.

Please just disclose your past to the charity and I am sure we can find a suitable role.

There is nothing stopping you contacting a charity to volunteer, however, we work with many charities and they might have roles you haven’t thought of or which might suit you better.
